Leah Rose and Ava Marie Clements are seven-year-old identical twins.
“For as long as I can remember strangers would approach me when we were out asking first if they were twins,” their mother, Jaqi, wrote in a blog post. “Their follow up would always be… “˜Wow they are so beautiful, you should really think about getting them into modeling.’”
Excited about the prospect of her daughters becoming mini models, Jaqi signed them to an agency when they were just six months old.
However, life became too hectic, especially since she was already raising a two-year-old son.
She ultimately decided to cancel their contracts because it just wasn’t the right time, and they were still too young to be in front of the camera.
It took a few years for Jaqi to reconsider her decision, but when Leah and Ava turned seven on July 7, 2017, she took it as a sign and created an Instagram page for them.
“Aside from the fact that I’m a huge believer in signs and have been told by almost everyone that 7 is a lucky number, I just had a feeling that this year was going to be a fun and exciting year for them,” she said.
Little did the Clements know that the photo would change their lives forever.
Jaqi explained that she got Leah and Ava’s permission before sharing their photos with the world, but she did not expect people to respond the way they did.
“I presented my idea to the girls that, if they were up for it, in addition to their dance classes and swim team practices they had every week, they could give modeling a try,” said the mother-of-three.
Over the next few days, Jaqi saw the Instagram page gain hundreds of followers, many of whom were in awe of Leah and Ava’s beauty, as well as their natural ability to pose for the camera.
People started leaving comments like “absolutely stunning,” “gorgeous girls,” and some even called them “the most beautiful twins in the world.”
Jaqi also started hearing from dozens of modelling agencies, all of whom wanted Leah and Ava to join their roster.
The girls eventually chose two agencies to represent them: Zuri Model & Talent and DreamRay Model & Talent.
They have since landed jobs for children’s clothing brands and magazines. According to their mom, her daughters are so in demand that they have had to work six jobs in a week.
The Clements twins soon garnered viral fame, and their Instagram account reached 15,000 followers in just six months. Now, they have nearly half a million followers.
Jaqi reassured people that despite their sudden popularity, the girls are loving every minute of their modelling career thus far.
“They loved to perform their dance routines in front of an audience, any audience. They loved to be the centre of attention,” she said.
Of course, being under the watchful eye of the public means the girls are subjected to criticism.
Some users started calling Jaqi out for letting her daughters wear makeup for certain photo shoots.
“This is wrong on so many levels.. I feel sad for them, losing their childhood,” commented one follower.
“It’s a shame that these gorgeous girls are using makeup in these photo shoot!!,” wrote another. “They are so young and they really don’t need it, besides makeup ruins their skin
One person argued that even though the girls look adorable, the excessive makeup sends the wrong message to children.
“…if the context was ‘playing dress up’ yes I get it but as just a kids fashion shoot It would have looked just as good without it and sent a much better message to children that they are all born gorgeous.”
Still, there were many others who came to the twins’ defense.
“Oh calm down about the makeup,” wrote one fan. “Yes they’re children. WE KNOW THAT. Don’t tell me as a little girl you never played with makeup and dressed up. Let artists create their vision and stop with your negativity.”
The same sentiment was echoed by another user who wrote, “If they want to wear makeup that’s fine just stop with the negativity ppl they is nothing wrong with wearing makeup and it is no one’s place to tell them not too, except from their parents, they are absolutely gorgeous either way!”
These comments did not slow the twins down in any way, in fact, they’ve gotten more popular than ever.
Jaqi eventually addressed the controversy on her blog. She wrote:
“Almost every job the girls book through their agency, or any professional photo shoot they attend, there is a hired hair and makeup artist on set. Why!? Because that’s how the industry works. If you’re looking to get the best picture, you obviously want your model to look their best. Think about children at their dance recital… some of these kids at 2 and 3 years old have a face full of makeup. Why!? Because they are also required to look a certain way (with WAY more makeup might I add- fake eyelashes, bright lipstick, eye shadow and bold blush). But it’s part of the costume, they are playing a part… and the same goes for modeling!”
Nowadays, Leah and Ava aren’t the only ones in the Clements clan that are modeling.
Their older brother, Chase Robert, is also signed to some agencies.
When she’s not blogging about the family’s experiences, Jaqi also occasionally poses alongside her children.
While there’s no indication that their father is a model, he could probably pass for one if he wanted to.
The entire family is ridiculously photogenic! We’re definitely going to be seeing a lot more of the sisters, and the rest of the Clements in the years to come.
Do you agree that Leah and Ava are the “most beautiful twins in the world?”
